- Yes Bank defers decision on AT1 coupon after Supreme Court reinstated Rs 8,415 cr bonds, keeping capital and earnings under pressure.
Yes Bank said on 24 Oct 2026 it is still evaluating the Supreme Court judgment that revived its written-off Additional Tier-1 bonds and has not yet decided whether to pay the 9% coupon that was due on 18 Oct 2026. The bank said it has the right to skip coupons under the bond terms and will announce its decision after its assessment, while day-to-day operations continue normally. If the Rs 8,415 crore liability stands, the bank faces a large annual interest cost and will likely need to raise fresh capital to rebuild buffers.

Yes Bank's Q2FY27 earnings call disclosed a Supreme Court order of 15 Oct 2026 upholding the reversal of the Rs 8,415 crore AT1 bond write-down from March 2020. Management said this cuts CET1 by about 240 basis points to around 11.4% on a pro forma basis, while total Tier-1 stays near 13.7%. The quarter itself was strong with Rs 1,080 crore net profit up 65%, but the bank must now assess coupons, accounting and fresh capital needs.
- Strong Q2 overshadowed by Supreme Court upholding Rs 8,415 cr AT-1 write-back, wiping out profits and 12% of net worth.
Yes Bank reported Q2 FY27 standalone net profit of Rs 1,080 crore, up 65% from a year ago, with asset quality improving to 1.2% gross NPA. However auditors gave a qualified review because the Supreme Court on October 15, 2026 upheld the Bombay High Court order quashing the March 2020 write-down of Rs 8,415 crore of AT-1 bonds. On a proforma basis if that liability was booked, Q2 would be a Rs 5,217 crore loss, net worth would fall to Rs 46,970 crore from Rs 53,268 crore and borrowings would rise to Rs 86,149 crore.
- Supreme Court ruled on Rs 8,415 cr AT-1 write-off, risking a multi-thousand-crore liability Yes Bank is still assessing.
Yes Bank told NSE it is examining the Supreme Court judgment pronounced on 15 October 2026 on the March 2020 write-down of Rs 8,415 crore of AT-1 bonds. The case history goes back to the Bombay High Court setting aside the write-down in January 2023, followed by a Supreme Court stay in March 2023. The bank said all past developments were disclosed and it will make further disclosure once it assesses the final order, after the shares fell about 10% on the news.
