Bombay Burmah disclosed it received a notice from the Tamil Nadu Forest Department on its erstwhile Singampatti tea estate matter, giving a provisional computation of Rs 6,462.12 crore for re-computed lease rent and other charges on leased forest lands. The amount is provisional and subject to the company's objections, a hearing and a final reasoned order, with rights to appeal. The company says it is premature to quantify any financial implication, so there is no immediate payout, but the size of the claim is very large versus its profits and net worth.
