NGT closed the illegal-mining case with no penalty, but the same claim is still pending in High Court.

Bharat Coking Coal said the National Green Tribunal, Eastern Zone Kolkata has disposed of case OA 57/2023/EZ alleging illegal mining at Central Surunga Paharigora, Parbad Laxmi Colliery and Alakdiha OP in Dhanbad. The Tribunal's order dated 8 October 2026 declined to exercise parallel jurisdiction as identical relief is pending before the Jharkhand High Court at Ranchi. There is no fine, penalty or operational direction, so near-term operations are unaffected but the underlying dispute continues in the High Court.

BCCL lost its Supreme Court appeal and faces a ~Rs 63 cr payout in an old mining contract dispute.

Bharat Coking Coal said the Supreme Court on 8 October 2026 dismissed its appeal against the Jharkhand High Court order in the AT-Libra BPL joint venture dispute over a 2010 HEMM contract at Golukdih. The earlier Dhanbad Commercial Court decree directing BCCL to pay Rs 46.20 crore plus 10.5% annual interest therefore stands. BCCL says counsel has advised filing a review petition and it will update on further developments.

BCCL raised coking coal prices up to 14% for non-regulated buyers, lifting revenue and margins.

On 13 October 2026, Bharat Coking Coal's board approved rationalisation of basic prices for raw coking coal sold to the non-regulated sector. The revision covers Steel Grades I and II, Direct Feed, and PCC and HVMC washery grades, with increases of about 0.1% to 14% to correct inter-grade differentials. The hike should lift realisations and profitability over the next year as it applies without any increase in mining cost.
